GOIN GOIN BACK BACK TO....
finally home. landed in 85 degree Cali sunshine….ahh, yes. no more living out of a suitcase.
Aside from a couple glitches, my asia trip was inspiring….i hunted through the leather markets, found some new materials…picked fall colors for the next collection, celebrated halloween in hk, hopped on a boat with the head of louis vuitton footwear asia and his wife (who i fell in love with), took trains, hopped on the back of random chinese mens motorcycle “taxis”, had a taxi driver ask me how much i cost (this was actually really scary)….and yet i made it back home in 1 piece.
I wish everyone could bear witness to exactly how difficult it is for independent designers to manufacture their own products. Spending nearly 3 weeks in a developing country half way across the world as a woman, on your own dime working 17 hour days in factories and in street markets is incredibly liberating and makes me feel like i can do anything i put my mind to. But, in all reality, its difficult as hell…and def wears on a girl.
